About Our School

Where justice begins in the classroom.

Founded in 1993 as one of the first public high schools in the U.S. dedicated to social justice, El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice empowers students in grades 9–12 to become leaders through arts, activism, and community organizing. Our partnership with El Puente’s human rights institution ensures a whole student, whole school, whole community approach to education.

At El Puente, we believe education is a tool for liberation. Our students engage in cultural organizing, environmental justice, and youth-led advocacy, carrying forward a legacy of resistance that began with the 1986 PS 16 boycott and continues today in Brooklyn and Puerto Rico.
