About Our School
Where every child designs the future.
Founded as a beacon of STEAM innovation, PS 256 serves 3-K through 5th Grade students in the vibrant Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. Our project-based curriculum—rooted in architecture, engineering, and social justice—challenges young minds to solve real-world problems, just as our namesake, Benjamin Banneker, did centuries ago.
We believe learning should be joyful and equitable. From our state-of-the-art hydroponic lab to partnerships with COOKFOX Architects and Liberty Science Center, every experience is designed to lift student voices and celebrate the rich legacy of Bed-Stuy.
