About Our School
Where every child belongs.
Founded in 1985, The Center School is a progressive middle school for grades 5–8 on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. We blend traditional academics with a child-centered philosophy, ensuring students engage deeply with literature, writing, and complex subjects while feeling valued and supported.
Our small, tight-knit community fosters confidence and belonging. With theater arts woven into the curriculum, every student performs onstage, building public speaking skills and self-assurance. Advisory programs and inter-age groups help students navigate adolescence with guidance from trusted teachers.
